After a busy summer packed with long hours at the office, I was ready to take my family on an extended weekend beach trip to Galveston TX. It would be my 2 boys’ (ages 3 and 2) first beach trip and they were super excited. The first thing in order was to find an affordable hotel within walking distance of the beach. After comparing several hotels in the area, we chose to book 3 days at Hampton Inn Galveston. We left Fort Worth Friday morning and made the 5-hour drive to Galveston. As entered Galveston TX and turned on Seawall Blvd, we were greeted by a majestic view of the ocean. Another quick right and we arrived at Hampton Inn. My first thought of Hampton Inn Galveston was “wow”. The location was amazing. We were just a 4-minute walk from the beach, and there was a Super Walmart across the street which proved essential for a family with young kids. Our room was on the 4th floor and we had a slight view of the ocean. The room was clean and spacious. The first afternoon in Galveston we took it easy and rested from the long drive. Saturday morning, we got up early and went downstairs for breakfast. The free complimentary breakfast buffet had a lot of options and was pretty good. I have to say that Hampton Inn coffee is the best (watch out Starbucks). After breakfast, we finally made it to the beach. The boys built sand castles as my wife and I took in the breathtaking views of the beach. It was relaxing. I would have thought that the boys would be calm after day at the beach, but once we got back to the hotel room they still had a lot of energy. At 5pm, we received a call from a very apologetic front desk attendant, about our boys jumping so hard that the people below us could hear. That was the only small wrinkle on an otherwise very good beach weekend trip. We will be going back to Galveston TX next summer and surely stay at Hampton Inn Galveston. The only thing different is that we’ll make sure to ask for a first floor room.
